Herr Direktor

– Oh look, its Polly Peachum!

The bimbo comes to rub the back
Of the great movie man
Faces painted, eyes are blank
The way the boss demands
Her father was his dearest pal
He owned some magistrates
And when poor old Britain bit the dust
Dad sends her to the states.

To bow when Herr Direktor comes
Bow when Herr Direktor comes.

An actor doesn’t need to act
When in soap opera
A writer needn’t even think
Just make some photo stats
Oh but Americans are really great
They don’t resent success
And they love the English filmic art
Which is the very best.

Bow when Herr Direktor comes
Massive talent struck him dumb

Bow to him
He’s dumb but he’s proud
Stupidity has liberated him

Mainstream life is a paupers grave
Full of lepers who think they’re saved
I haven’t come to this misery
For some art school snob to look down on me

Bow when Herr Direktor comes,
Massive talent struck him dumb
Bow when Herr Direktor comes
Bow when Herr Direktor comes

Alles ist vorbei
It’s all over.
Hitler won the war.

  1. Really good to see such a comprehensive collection of Microdisney lyrics .. thanks! You’re missing a few – in particular, one of my favourites: Sun from Everybody is Fantastic. I could send them if you give me an email. Simon

  2. Hi, there’s a couple of German references to correct in this song. Firstly, the name should be “Polly Peachum” at the start of the song. She’s a character in Bertolt Brecht’s “The Threepenny Opera”.

Also, Cathal doesn’t sing “Violence is not all bad”, but “Alles ist vorbei” just before “It’s all over” at the end of the song. Fittingly, this means “It’s all over” in German.
